Happy Cat Earrings are an excellent way to celebrate our love of cats. And wearing a pair of Happy Cat Earrings tells the world that you not only love cats, but that you are happy, creative, and enjoy having fun. These are another product in my ‘garage-art’ line of creative things I make from the discarded things that people toss.
I wear my Happy Cat Earrings a lot and people notice. And people wanted them, so I started making them for others in the colour of their choice. And I just kept making them. Now I’m doing many craft/flea markets here in Ottawa, Canada while I’m here for the summer.
Fingers crossed, for all to go well in the next few weeks, they will be available in the on-line shop that I’ll be launching soon, and at a very popular ‘artisan’ jewellery and hat shop smack-dab in the middle of the tourist area here in Ottawa.
At a night market I did last week, so many young girls loved them and spent way too much time trying to decide which pair was their favourite. While I enjoyed sharing cat photos with these girls, the most fun customers were some of the young adults who knew exactly which pair to pick. They matched them with their hair colour. Yes, I definitely had loads of fun at that event.
Well, except for the poor girl who after returning to check out the earrings many times, finally brought her Mother with her. Unfortunately the Mother wasn’t keen on getting this girl anything. I heard the Mother saying, “You have gotten enough this week, maybe another time.” The poor girl left in tears.
I’ll be back, like Arnie in the Terminator. In 2 weeks I’ll be at this night market again. I hope the girl is there, and her Mother is happy to get this girl not only one pair, but another pair as well.
I have made many styles and colours for people to pick from. Along with my Basic Line in many colours, I now have a Sparkle Collection that is so much fun, as I’m making some pairs not matching. There is a Tuxedo Collection in many colours, and a Barbie Collection in an assortment of pinks. I’ve started planning Ginger and Christmas Collections, so there will be more fun into the Fall. And knowing myself, my creativity will just continue…
Since they are all hand-made by me, from discarded embroidery thread (yes, I am trying to reduced our garbage footprint), I can make them wherever I am. Right now I’m at my home in Ottawa, Canada, and in the Fall I will travel back to the Happy Cat Villa, my other home on Koh Lanta, in southern Thailand. In both places I seem to have an endless supply of materials. People are always giving me their unwanted stuff, hoping I can turn it into something useful. And I do!
I make at least a handful of pairs almost every day. Here is a photo of what I’ve made so far today. The white is really an opalescence that glistens. After embroidering them, I lightly starch the shapes and let them dry in the sun. I then put the hooks and rings on, and pack them up with my Happy Cat Label in their own little zip-bag.
I’m always looking for new creative possibilities, whether it’s stuff I can make from thread, yarn, fabric, bubble wrap, empty garbage bags and even from lighters. I’m having a blast!
Click here for a short video I put together one day last week of the Happy Cat Earring production assembly line that day. I hope you enjoy it.
It’s all good!
